Elizabeth McGee – San Francisco Tax Attorney Profile

San Francisco tax attorneyElizabeth McGee is a San Francisco tax attorney who advises startup companies, mid-sized businesses, and individual clients on appropriate procedures to reduce their federal and state tax burdens and helps clients comply with federal and state tax laws. She focuses her practice on tax controversy and litigation and represents clients during Internal Revenue Service (IRS) audits, IRS administrative appeals, collection negotiations, litigation, and similar state tax proceedings.

Before she became a San Francisco tax attorney, Ms. McGee served as an attorney advisor at the United States Tax Court for two years, then worked as an attorney at several leading tax practices in Washington, D.C. and New York City, where she was recognized by Super Lawyers as a Rising Star in Taxation for the New York Metro Region, a distinction awarded to no more than 2.5% of lawyers in the state. Ms. McGee earned a Master of Laws (LL.M.) in Taxation from NYU, the nation’s premier graduate tax program.

In addition to tax controversy, Ms. McGee has substantial business tax experience. She has advised on the tax aspects of mergers and acquisitions, restructurings, securities offerings, real estate transactions, cancellation of indebtedness, investments by tax-exempt and non-U.S. investors, as well as complex tax treaty issues and inbound and outbound taxation.

Ms. McGee regularly speaks to legal and tax professionals on issues of taxation and has published numerous articles on an array of tax topics. She is an active member of several bar associations and recently served as a Co-Chair of the Current Developments Subcommittee for the Court Practice and Procedure Committee of ABA Section of Taxation.
